My first (@ 4 yrs old) Science Fiction book (& series):

"Tom Swift Jr. & His Flying Lab" by Victor Appleton II

"Tom Swift and His Flying Lab" was published in 1954 by Grosset & Dunlap.

Later editions transitioned to picture covers, where the artwork was printed directly onto the hardcover, eliminating the need for a separate dust jacket.
