Beneath the leaves, the past breathes—quiet lives, quietly honored.

St George Anglican Cemetery, Gawler, South Australia.

Established in 1861, on four acres and purchased for £55 by St George’s Anglican Church.

The first section was consecrated in April 1864 by Bishop Augustus Short and the first Burial was Amelia Underdown, a child of Lycurgus and Jane Underdown, in 1861.

The cemetery holds many of Gawler’s early Anglican settlers, making it a vital site for genealogical and historical research. In 1996, the rear half was consecrated for use as a lawn cemetery, reflecting evolving burial practices.
