Extreme closeup photograph of a bee (likely a Western honeybee) straddling the side and top of the stamen and pistil at the center of a crocus flower. This crocus variety has white and purple, teardrop-shaped, overlapping petals. The petals are curved and conical in shape similar to a tulip but with a soft pointed end and flowers have yellow-orange stamens and a yellow-orange pistil. This bee is in the upper left frame facing right in profile with its head bent down to probe for pollen and nectar. This bee species has a black and brown striped abdomen, a dark brown thorax with fine gold hairs and black hairs, a black head covered in fine black hairs and gold hairs with large, dark compound eyes, mandibles and two antennae, six, black, segmented legs, and two transparent wings with amber veining.
