Last week, I was in a major car accident on a snowy country road. Three other cars were involved. My car is a total loss. But I'm in one piece, and that's what matters.

This was everything I hate about cars. The dangerous driving. The costs. The fear.

Ironically, I've had this series of photos from my first trip across Canada open on my desktop for a few weeks now. I was waiting for the right moment to post them, a lull in the winter season maybe, certainly not a car crash.

They are everything I love about driving. Discovery. Freedom. Movement.

For several days now, I've been replaying the accident in my mind: the car that suddenly appeared in front of me and that I hit; and the cars coming from the opposite direction that crashed into me. And yet, I can't wait to get back on the road. Discovering new landscapes and the sensation of leaving it all behind. Strange emotions.

Near Moosomin, Saskatchewan, 2015.

Black and white photograph taken from inside a car, of a very straight highway on the left side, the shoulder with the white line and a rumble strip, grass and a little snow in the middle, and to the right of the highway a railway with a moving train on which containers are stacked. The sky is overcast and the landscape is very flat, typical of Saskatchewan.
