A deep blue cloudless sky. Emerging out of the forest onto cliffs of gray and reddish brown rock speckled with light gray lichen. This part of the cliffs has a wild profusion of moss, grass, shrubs and the occasional small tree growing in a thin layer of soil across much of the rock. A weather-beaten tree with a tangle of gnarled limbs stands just to our left. A large patch of moss at its feet is an electric yellowish green in the bright sunshine. To our right the tops of tall trees peek above the edge of the cliff. Their foliage, and the foliage of the many shrubs up top are a riot of yellows, golds and oranges. The sun, offscreen top, is shining directly at us, creating a patchwork of long dark shadows, splashes of bright sunlight and rich backlit autumn foliage.
