@delroth I was expected a thread with some back-and-forth escalating to that conclusion, but wow... your two-line summary catches pretty much exactly what went down. WTF
@lowqualityfacts I'd add goatse
@drewdevault@fosstodon.org The most paradoxical thing about this is that (in my experience) people in more collectivist societies tend to be more tolerant of individual eccentricities, whereas in individualistic societies people expect conformity. Not 100% sure why, but I suspect that when individual choices are less essential to the functioning of the system overall, people can afford to be a bit more relaxed about them.
@lichess Additionally, I think every pawn should get a single two-square jump that can use at any point in the game, so not just on its first move. Imagine the anguish if your opponent has a passed pawn two squares from promotion, but you can't remember if it has already used up his "jump" or not...
@interfluidity@fosstodon.org @interfluidity@econtwitter.net Seems to have worked for me as well. In general I think there should be no issues with followers on up-to-date Mastodon servers. I have moved several times myself, and at times I have lost some followers on forked or outdated servers.
@fuckeveryphilosopherbot Not sure about this one
@phocks I check some accounts using https://nitter.net, but haven't logged into the app itself for three months or so.
@bagder As someone who fiddled with it and likes the idea of Gemini, I think the post is very good.
In fact, the community should probably be happy you're pointing out these ambiguities. If curl had just implemented one specific interpretation instead, that would immediately be the de facto standard for the protocol as a whole, and would have taken away all control the community itself could have had over those decisions.
@sarangshah@mastodon.social That's Martin Wolf, right? Because the paywall won't even allow me to see the byline...
@dajb Lol ok, that's getting into IE territory yeah. As far as I can see the oldest supported version of Firefox ESR is 102, so that could be a counterargument. But Mozilla's ESR support policy isn't exactly clear, so there might not be an unambiguous end-of-life statement from their side that you could link to... So yeah, your IE6 comparison is definitely growing on me.
@dajb A bit harsh maybe. Firefox ESR is at worst one year behind (I think?) whereas people where still forced to support IE6 ten years after its release.
@zdl Also, instead of TA I'd say the real power move would have been to choose 祂 as a gender neutral pronoun.
@sarangshah@mastodon.social (I can't find the original post, but I think I first saw this shared by @SrRochardBunson. So maybe he has some ideas on this too?)
@sarangshah@mastodon.social Not exactly a study, but I found this first-hand account very interesting. It drives home how much modern Evangelical millenarianism is itself a product of the 1960s counterculture they claim to despise, rather than something truly ancient and traditional. Reading that it's not surprising how newer internet subcultures have managed to capture the same audience again. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/31/rapture-films-left-behind-evangelical
@evan Maybe for mutuals, but otherwise I'm not interested
@lowqualityfacts Unfortunately, I have no recollection of having ever been a baby, so I cannot use this line in good faith.
@CommonMugwort North London or the North of England? If it's the former, that's where I was living too at the time. If it's the latter than I don't know if there'll be an issue there.
@samuel_wade Depends on the licensing of the code you're copying I guess...
@CommonMugwort I remember that during the 2012 Olympics you could generally go about your business as usual. Of course that was mostly centered on Stratford rather than Westminster, but still I'd imagine it'll be fine for the coronation too.
