@drewdevault@fosstodon.org The most paradoxical thing about this is that (in my experience) people in more collectivist societies tend to be more tolerant of individual eccentricities, whereas in individualistic societies people expect conformity. Not 100% sure why, but I suspect that when individual choices are less essential to the functioning of the system overall, people can afford to be a bit more relaxed about them.
