Have you ever seen the southern brown bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus)? This nocturnal marsupial can be found in parts of Australia, including New South Wales and Victoria. It’s an omnivore that forages for plants, fungi, and invertebrates. When threatened, this critter huffs and puffs, making a “chuff chuff” vocalization to intimidate foes. If that doesn’t work, it can also emit a shrill shriek.
