Well I guess at least it's one of those rare days you can successfully understand a written date despite being in Canada

@mcc Even here in the anti-metric hellhole that is the US, I see both formats often enough that unless paperwork explicitly specifies the format of the field, I always use ISO8601's YYYY-MM-DD format...
(An odd observation I've noticed a while back: It's not just "we don't use metric", a lot of people here have a "fuck you we won't use metric" attitude, like they're personally flipping the bird to the EU by continuing to use a weird unit system almost nobody else does... As you might be able to guess, there's a considerable overlap with the reactionary fuckwits that the news reporters run to for "balanced reporting" every time something good happens, but a surprising amount of them are also well-educated "liberal" people, just stuck in their ways)
Meanwhile I'm over here using exclusively metric where possible, because 3d printers and euro cars...
@becomethewaifu it was a pdf and when i tried to do YYYY-MM-DD it blocked me 😞 😞 :(
and the thing is, if you're in europe you know you should use DD-MM-YY, if you're in the US you know you should use MM-DD-YY, if you're in Canada… well, just guess. every time
@mcc @becomethewaifu I always write the date out if possible - 26. jan 2026. If I just have to write numbers I will get it wrong at least half the time
@mcc DMY, YMD, both are fine. The real abominations are MDY, YDM
