If anyone wants an instrument comparison between my two basses, the previous post with the first part of "Sir Duke" was played on my Squier Jazz Bass with some old, dead flatwound strings.
Here's part of "I Wish" on my Schecter Stiletto Custom-6, with new Super Steps strings from La Bella, which are made to draw out upper overtones in the strings.

And for anyone curious what the full range on a six-string bass is, here's open low B and the highest C on the 24th fret of the C string.
Honestly, unless you know you want a six-string bass, I would not recommend one. They're a pain to play. Awesome if used right though.

@ziphi I don't have a six string, but I've played them before. They're pretty cool to play chords on, and having the higher range for solos is neat
Muting the strings is a little trickier though. This may be on YouTube, but I remember seeing a video where John Patitucci was talking about playing a six-string, and muting with the other fingers on his right hand.

@toroidalcore My six string bass is definitely in my top two of favorite instruments I own. But it sure is hard to play. The high c string getting in the way and wide fretboard make playing it difficult, and keeping strings muted is a pain.
But I love chords on it, and it’s great for the occasional countermelody or solo work.
@ziphi I'm surprised at the timbre you get from that high note, i would have expected it to sound more muted!

@Hearth It’s a wonderfully capable instrument.
And these new strings on it are heckin’ awesome too. Beautiful timbre from these things.
Of course, I can adjust the tone nob to get that more muted sound if I want it. Or I can adjust the balance between bridge and neck pickups to make it a bit harsher or more mellow too.
Again, it’s a very capable instrument. I love it a lot.
