Faergi is locally known as a frog-speaker.

That's not in reference to some arcane system of totemic symbology. He literally talks to amphibians. There are several species of tree frog (sadly extinct now at his latitude) whose secretions he finds useful in his elixirs, but it would be very rude of him to take a scraping without consulting them first.

He uses his staff to gently ferry them down from their branches to a level where the two of them can chat more easily. Sometimes they do say no, in which case he equally gently places them back where he found them.
