Close-up macro of Xylaria fruiting on PDA Agar. There's pale fibrous mycelium contrasting with a big black circle of felt-like, tomentose growth. A big branch, (looking something like a low-hanging willow trunk) with a fluffy, white base has grown out of the circle and is running diagonally. Other smaller grey-ish branches shoot out of the dark fruiting body.
