The markup on Thursday for #KOSA and related bills is looking to be a fustercluck. #KOSA got stapled together into a superbill (the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act) with other pieces of proposed legislation, including the SCREEN Act (age verification imposed for all adult sites). The Republicans are insisting on a version of #KOSA that is less of a neutron bomb than the Senate version, thanks to lacking the "duty of care" provision. It also differs from the Senate version when it comes to pre-empting state laws. Compare sec. 221 there with Title III of the Senate version:

Both of these changes would make for a better (though still bad) law, and I believe that both are opposed by the Democrats, who are gung-ho for Helen Lovejoy action.
