And there have even been studies done that show that it is what controls at least some conscious functions.
Like, if someone asks you to choose something, the subconscious process is what actually triggers your conscious choice. Saw it like a decade ago in a TV documentary...

@ShadowJonathan I mean, the eyes are just a sensor collecting data unfiltered. It’s the brain sorting through it and processing it. Without a good processing unit behind them, even the best sensors aren’t useful. And our brains often have wild ideas about what of the information picked up is relevant and what not.
