This is a black and white seascape photo of a sailing boat underway at sunset. The lower 40% of the image is filled with an expanse of calm ocean water. The sea is calm with the setting sun reflecting off the surface creating large areas of silver on the left side of the image. The sea on the right is deep in shadow. To the right and below the centre of the image is a sailing boat: under sail, with the mainsail set and moving from right to left. The boat is in shadow and viewed at right angles to the camera. The crew or passengers can be seen in silhouette at the rear of the boat. A few metres beyond is a navigation buoy with a lattice tower supporting the lantern. In the distance is a crisp horizon with three further sailing boats on or close to the border between the sea and sky. Above is a partly cloudy sky with a small scattering of medium level clouds. Frequently foggy, but when the sun is visible (as it was on Saturday), this is what the ocean looks like near the Kuchel Visitor Center in Redwood National and State Parks. Gentle blue waves rolling in, a lone bird sitting on the surface of the water (pelican, perhaps), and a line of offshore clouds in the distance. The sky above is quite blue, too, with just a few clouds here and there.
