I could probably post a hundred photos for this theme.

This is Our Lady of the Rocks in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. Accessible only by boat, it's an artificial island partly created by sinking rock-laden vessels, a continuation of a tradition of laying rocks here after successful voyages.

We're close to an islet in a calm bay with a low mountain range framing it in the distance. The islet has a dock built into its side and on the flat, paved surface there is a large church with a tower, a domed main building, and smaller buildings attached to the sides. The stone of the island and its buildings, as well as that of the mountain landscape beyond is pale, and the area feels very dry. There are a few wispy clouds in the sky above the lightly-jagged ridge of land in the background but it otherwise feels quiet and hot here, despite being on the water. The church tower and the dome are copper, turned blue-green with age. The tiled roofs of the smaller buildings are red and there's a very European or Mediterranean feel to the scene.

On the northernmost tip of A Coruña, Spain for #MeerMittwoch today, looking outwards to where the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean become one.

We're on one side of a narrow bay with a view to part of the other side and the opening of the bay out into the sea beyond. It's a warm, pleasant day with a mix of blue sky and light cloud overhead and the sun is currently hidden. The water that we're looking at is very calm, rippled slightly with no more than a gentle breeze affecting it, and it's very clear. From our highpoint on this side of the bay we can see down into the cool depths of the water at light colouration differences from pale rocks under the surface. The landscape of the bay is rocky low down, rising abruptly a few metres before sloping more gently away where grass and small, tightly-packed bushes carpet the area in vibrant green. In the bay entrance a few rocky islets emerge from the water.

Reeds and willows always bring a spot of welcome colour to a walk on a winter's day. I also like the way that trees, at this time of year, have a coloured haze about them - caused by the swelling leaf buds that are waiting for longer days before they open.

Photo theme - in the middle of nowhere

We know where we are when we're at sea. Mountainous desert with not a sign of moisture to be had is when we truly feel lost. Sometimes it's nice to feel lost.

This is atop the Monastery hiking path in Petra, Jordan. A great place to get lost in. You can just see part of the path down in the canyon ahead.

A portrait orientation view, high up in a mountainous desert area. There's not a cloud in the sky above us but there's a heat haze that turns the blue sky nearly white, especially near the top right where we can the sun is just out of sight. We're on high ground with a few metres of soft sandy surface in front of us before it drops off over an edge. A rocky outcrop on the left forms a small barrier and the right side looks to be a sheer drop but there's just enough of a soft crease in the centre to suggest that there might be a steep path directly in front of us that heads down. Higher, rough, rocky walls in warm sandstone are to the right in the distance, and even more distant rocky forms get ever hazier and paler as we look further over the cliff edge ahead. We can just make out a snaking path that runs between the canyon that's beyond the lip of the ground we're on, about fifty metres below. It feels hot, exposed, and silent here.
