There is a similar gaming piece in the Hessisches Landesmuseum #Kassel made of walrus tusk, labelled as 13th century #chessman. As it stems from the post-medieval treasury of the landgraves of Hesse-Kassel it is most probably not an archaeological find. The Shetland finds from Mail and Scalloway appear too early for #chess. 🏺 @archaeodons @chess #archaeology #histodons (📷 me, very bad light there). Unpublished AFAIK
