Iconic Grain Belt Beer Sign Minneapolis at Night I was out teaching a photography class in Minneapolis recently. We went out looking for some of the iconic images. This great classic is one of the images that I captured. The legendary Grain Belt Beer sign shines brilliantly against the Minneapolis night sky, reflecting its vibrant red neon glow over the Mississippi River. Installed in 1941, this iconic landmark has welcomed generations of Minnesotans and visitors alike as they cross the Hennepin Avenue Bridge into downtown. Originally produced by the Minneapolis Brewing Company, founded in 1893, Grain Belt Premium quickly became one of Minnesota’s most beloved beers. Today, the brand is proudly brewed by the August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm, Minnesota, which also restored and relit this historic sign in 2017 after years of darkness. Capturing both the nostalgia of Minneapolis history and the energy of its modern skyline, this image celebrates one of the Twin Cities’ most enduring symbols—a timeless reminder of community, craftsmanship, and heritage.
