We are walking down a dirt and gravel path, a large lake to our right, a forest to our left. Both grassy shoulders of the path slope downward several feet and are slightly overgrown with weeds, leafy shoots and clusters of white wildflowers. The lake is being rippled by an evening breeze. The sky is a darkening blue gray with long, streaky, hazy clouds. The golden orb of the sun has just set behind the wooded far shore of the lake, leaving a residual halo. Its rays are painting the clouds along and near the horizon orange and gold.
