A landscape of white (grey) sandstones, level in the foreground with a rounded cliff of about 10 meters behind. In front of the cliff are a few low desert trees such as piñon pine and native grasses. In the mid-foreground is an "island" of soil supporting small widely spaced shrubs, a red blooming flower, and the weathered, twisted trunk of a small tree; the soil is covered with a black lumpy biotic crust.
