Gave Up Trying To Shoot The Tehachapi Loop - So Here's The Tehachapi Twist

(Details In The Alt Text) - (In Great Detail)

#AltText #NoAI #No2AI #photography #photo #potd #photooftheday #travel #travelphotography #california #usa #us #railroad #rail #tracks #rails #train #trains #railway #railways #railroads #Tehachapi #landscape #track #landscapephotography #bnw #blackandWhite #monochrome #blackandwhitephotography

This is a black and white photo in landscape format of a freight train passing along a meandering length of track on the rim of a steep hillside. Tehachapi, California (2017).

The freight train enters the photo from the lower left corner, is viewed from slightly above and curves around the bottom before continuing its winding turn to the left. There are two parallel sets of tracks both reflecting the low morning sun from their smooth and shiny metal surface. The train is on the right set of tracks, perhaps because the US drives on the right ? At the front of the train are five diesel locomotives, their exhaust smoke lit faintly from the sunlight. Behind are three dark covered freight wagons followed by four black tank wagons. That is all that is in view, the total length may be as long as 6000 m (20,000 ft), with a few more locomotives thrown in for good measure. The tracks run along a tier built into the side of a hill, with the terrain falling away from the right to the left. There are scattered trees and sparse vegetation to either side of the tracks which curve around to the left before making an 'S' bend before continuing the curve to the left and out of view.

The front of the train has circled through the Tehachapi Loop and is winding its way through the Tehachapi Pass towards Mojave and then Los Angeles.
