Madrid, España (Spain), 2017: In the centre of the city. Best view I've ever had from a McDonald's, and Wi-Fi, of course, and a proper cafe with great expresso, too, downstairs! Taken with a Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone on auto, straight out of camera, my first good smartphone. This was the beginning of me being a mobile phone only photographer.

Today in Labor History September 5, 1936: Photographer Robert Capa captured the death of 24-year-old anarchist Federico "Taino" Borrell in the iconic photo The Falling Soldier. Borell was an antifascist fighter, killed during the Spanish Civil War. Capa is considered by many to be the greatest war photojournalist ever. He was the only civilian photographer who landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day. He co-founded Magnum Photos collective, which included David "Chim" Seymour, Maria Eisner, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, William Vandivert, and Rita Vandivert. He died after stepping on a landmine in Vietnam in 1954

It's #ThrowbackThursday and here's our first foreign family holiday in the mid 1980s to Alcudia, Mallorca. The hotel was mostly occupied by German tourists and I recall seeing the young German man on the far side in his Miami Dolphins Dan Marino NFL shirt a lot. I was a Patriots fan even back then and knew the enemy when I spotted it.

A scan of a 1980s colour photograph taken beside a small swimming pool at a hotel, and shot with a slight tilt on it. Concrete paving slabs lead to the rectangular pool's edge and there are half a dozen people in the clear blue water with a young boy in the process of diving in from the far side and a young man walking past in shorts and an American Football top. Beyond the pool there is more paving with some loungers and fixed grass-roofed parasols, and the leaves on the branches of a bushy tree emerge from the right. The distant view is that of a conical hill rising up behind a lake with the sky hazy and white with the brightness of the day and limited exposure control of the camera at the time.
